It’s true that you will find a bar or a church on most every corner in the 9th ward. Sometimes a bar will flip to a church or a church to a bar with no notice, which can make for awkward conversations between those in the know and those ignorant of the change. You might know that bars are open 24/7 in the city. So, an alcoholic with the shakes will go in looking for an early a.m. drink and perhaps fall into salvation. A saint will enter and fall from grace. You can’t trust the signs outside, so best to stick your head in first before entering the holy place.
